The intervention of the Minister S.M. Chandrasena has resulted in calling off of the islandwide sick leave campaign launched by Wildlife Conservation Officers two days ago, yesterday afternoon.
Referring to the negotiations he had with the officials, the Wildlife Resources Ministry Secretary A.H. Wijesinghe told the Sunday Observer that a memorandum will be submitted to the Cabinet by Minister Chandrasena to seek approval for the payment of incentives to certain categories of field officials and no decision could be taken due to election laws and regulations being in effect at present.
He said that the other demand by the officers that they should be paid the proposed salary hikes without further delay, the proposal has been submitted to the Salaries and Cadres Commission for approval and a positive response is awaited.
Wijesinghe said that in these circumstances, the officials agreed to call off the sick-note campaign.
