The Wushu Federation has drawn up plans to conduct the National Wushu championship and have already commenced practices, the President of the Wushu Federation Manel Dharmakeerthi told the Sunday Observer recently.
“We have started training our National pool. The date of the National tournament has not been decided yet. But it will be decided soon,” he said.
The World Junior Wushu Championship is schedule to be held in Morocco while the Asian Wushu Championship in India is undecided.
“We do not believe that the Asian Championships will be held in India this year as they are struggling with the pandemic. But even though there are no international competitions we continue our tanning.
“It will be good for the future,” said Dharmakeerthi.
He said a ban on an event known as Sanda is likely to be lifted after 12 years as it is an area in which Sri Lanka has potential to win medals.
Dharmakeerthi said they were already having successful discussions with the ministries of Sport and Education on the matter.
