The Health Ministry Covid-19 guidelines on regulating election campaigns will be gazetted this week. The police will be empowered to take legal action against candidates who violate quarantine law as well as election law, Election Commission sources said. The Cabinet approved a set of guidelines presented by Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi last week. The Election Commission has instructed the candidates to adhere to the Health Ministry’s guidelines failing which the police has been directed to stop their propaganda campaigns. - LP
