Director –General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe told the Sunday Observer yesterday that he would issue guidelines this week to hold the 2020 Parliamentary Elections.
“I am not empowered to announce the date of the elections nor do I have authority to give any recommendations. These are only guidelines,” he said
The election was to be held on June 20 after it was postponed from April 25, due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
A decisio n from the Supreme Court on whether it will grant leave to proceed on the six election petitions against holding the polls on June 20, is still pending.
