As men’s football slumps, new coach for Sri Lanka women

26 April, 2020

With the men’s soccer team dropping to a new low in world rankings there is some hope for improvement in the women’s team as the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) is to recruit a new head coach for them.

This is done with the intention of preparing the women’s team for upcoming tournaments to be held in the near future.

The new head coach will be selected from among the locally qualified coaches who will be eligible to apply for this post. After the resumption of the soccer season the FFSL will conduct trials to select a new pool of players from among the women.

The women’s team had a disappointing performance at the South Asian Championships under their head coach Thilak Alphonsu having failed to register a single win.

Both the men’s and women’s teams failed miserably at the Championship held last year.

The men’s team have dropped down to their lowest ranking which is 206th in the world as at February 20, 2020.
