Joes break down Gateway at Zahira Super 16 final

St. Joseph’s College beat Gateway College 1-0 at the Zahira Super 16 soccer Sevens tournament final at the Race Course ground in Colombo last week.

Sixteen schools participated in the tournament comprising De Mazenod College, Gateway College, Hindu College, Al Aqsa College, Isipathana College, Alethea International School, Maris Stella College, St. Henry’s College, DS Senanayake College, Royal College, St. Benedict’s College, St. Joseph’s College, S. Thomas’ College, Zahira College Gampola, Wesley College and Zahira College Colombo.

The best goal-keeper of the championship was De Mel of Gateway College while the man of the final was Kavinda Rupasinghe of St. Joseph’s College and the most valuable player was Shenal Sandesh also of St. Joseph’s College who received awards.

The chief guest and main sponsor of the tournament head of marketing Deedat, Rameez Sheriif presented Rs. 50,000 and the trophy to the winning team captain Kavinda Rupasinghe of St. Joseph College.
