The launch of the book ‘From Marsh to Boake – The Founding Fathers of Royal College’ by D.L.Seneviratne was held on February 23, 2020, in the auditorium of the Skills Development Centre of Royal College.
An appreciative audience which included the Principal B.A Abeyratne and several eminent Old Boys, were seen awed by a power point presentation of the adventure taken by the author, a Vice-president of The Royal College Union, in locating and photographing the former school building, now stables for the horses of the Colombo Mounted Police and the 300 year old Dutch-built Principal’s bungalow at San Sebastian, Hulftsdorp. The School was in this location for 77 years till 1913 and these buildings were hitherto unknown to it, now ensconced in the salubrious Racecourse Avenue, Colombo 7. The revelation of these buildings embellish the narrative of the life and times of the early history of the School. The author made a plea that these venerable buildings be protected and preserved. This hard cover book with 64 photographs and Foreward by distinguished old-Royalist S.Skandakumar our former High Commissioner in Australia, will give a new perspective of the School to all Royalists.
It is very reasonably priced at Rs.1,500/- and is available at the School’s Merchandise shop and other leading bookstores.
