Ananda-Nalanda clash set for March 7 and 8

The 91st Ananda-Nalanda ‘Battle of the Maroons’ cricket encounter sponsored by Dialog for the third consecutive year will be held on March 7 and 8 at the SSC ground in Colombo.

The one-day encounter will be held at the same venue on March 15.In this year’s encounter the lads from Ananada College, will be led by batsman Kanishka Ranthilakage while the boys from Nalanda College will battle it out under the captaincy of wicket keeper-batsman, Avishka Perera.

The two schools have the distinction of having produced several players to the national team. Sri Lanka’s first Test captain Bandula Warnapura donned the cricket cap for Nalanda College in 1968 while Arjuna Ranatunga, who led the Sri Lankans in the famous World Cup winning team in 1996 hails from Ananda College.
