All athletes who won gold medals at the South Asian Games (SAG) will be sent to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Indoor Athletic Championship to be held in Nanjing, China at the end of February, an official of the Athletic Association of Sri Lanka told the Sunday Observer in an exclusive revelation. Athletic official GLS Perera said the decision was “good encouragement and inspiration” for Sri Lanka’s athletes to perform better at international meets in the future.
“If they keep improving in their personal best timings there is a bright prospect for them to keep representing the country at the highest level,” he said.
Sri Lanka won 15 gold medals in athletics, the highest ever, at last month’s South Asian Games. (TBR)
