Malinga was afraid to bowl against Aussies?

10 November, 2019

It is time the Selectors, if they have any responsibility, take out Lasith Malinga from the captaincy of the T20 team and hand it to anybody who will not cave in like he did against Australia in the T20 series where Sri Lanka was routed 3-0.

Malinga was afraid to bowl his fourth and last over in the second T20 against Australia after he was hammered in his previous over.

With Sri Lanka defending a total of less than 120 it was hard to understand why Malinga did not throw in everything at the Aussies being the most experienced bowler on the field. Instead he hides perhaps not wanting to spoil his figures and averages.

Being the captain Malinga let down the side very badly and how can a team compete or win when the captain does not lead from the front and chickens out.

Hope the selectors have taken note of Malinga’s shortcomings and relieve him of the captaincy. He is only good with the ball and not a leader at all. He is neither a strategist nor a tactician. He is an individual.

In Sri Lanka the syndrome is seniority for everything while capability takes a back seat and this is the problem from top to bottom. This culture has to change.
