Sri Lanka Rugby has decided to subscribe to a one-day tournament in memory of three members of a family based in Singapore who lost their lives in the Easter Sunday bombing of a hotel in Colombo.

The matches will be played on November 5 in Singapore in memory of Anita Nicholson and her two children Alex and Annabel who were killed when a jihadist exploded a bomb at the Shangri-la Hotel on April 21 which was Easter Sunday. The tournament will feature three teams called the Singapore Select, Sri Lanka Select and a side from Fiji known as Daveta.

Each team will have ten players contesting the matches to be played at the Singapore Cricket Club ground. Singapore has a large rugby following where the Nicholson family were ardent fans of the sport and were on holiday in Sri Lanka.

Money raised from the matches will be channelled to the Nicholson family Memorial Fund which has been set up as part of the Asia Foundation to provide support to children across the Asia region. Ben Nicholson has made it clear that his objective is to ensure that a portion of the funds are utilized to support children in Sri Lanka
