Royal College’s squash team emerged champions at the inter-school squash championship held at S. Thomas’ College sports complex Mount Lavinia from September 17 to 20.
They defeated DS Senanayake College after a stiff battle in the final of the team championship.
Royal’s A team and their B team finished victorious unbeaten to give themselves the overall championship by establishing a comfortable lead of 22 points.
Each player of the Royal outfit remained unbeaten throughout the team championship and it marked the second year in succession that Royal dominated the competition in all three championship categories.
All major schools playing squash around the country took part in this event..
Royal were coached by RS Deen assisted by VSM Chandana and the team comprised Ashan Athapathu (captain), Methmal Wood, Druvinka Perera, Heshan Balasuriya, Nadun Karunaratne, Seniya Jayatilleke, Qays Sangani, Akila Atapattu, Chamath Weerasinghe, Vinal Salgado, Sadeesha Rajapakse, Sehath Perera, Akash Wijesekara, Bashitha Alwis, Minaga Padeniya, Thenuwan Meegalla, Sandil Batuwanthudawa, Vinupa Nethmina and Aritha Alahakoon.
