Bangladesh’s Under-19 cricketers made a strong come back into the fight but fell short by just six runs go down to India Under-19 by five runs in the Under-19 Asia Cup final played at the R. Premadasa Stadium at Khettarama yesterday.
Electing to bat first, India scored only 106 runs with Karan Lal top scoring with 37 runs and Chand Jurel chipping in with 33 on a difficult pitch as India lost wickets at regular intervals.
Bangladesh got off to a poor start and never recovered fully to be all out for 101 runs in 33 overs.
They were 40 for five wickets at one stage and made a limited fight back through their late order batsmen Akbar Ali and Chowdhury.
But once they were separated after a stand of 27 runs for the ninth wicket, it was all over giving India the win by just five runs.
India’s left arm spinner Ankolekar captured the last two wickets to finish with figures of 5 for 28 and bag the Man-of-the-Match award.Scores:
