The Sri Lanka Cycling Federation has made arrangements to obtain opportunities for a coach and two junior cyclists for further training in India.
According to the President of the Cycling Federation N. Karunaratne the two sections of a special coaching course had already begun last week and will go on till September 11 in New Delhi. Sri Lankan cycling coach Nalin Siriwardena has been sent to follow this course.
In addition, the Track Asia 2019 competition will also be conducted in India and two junior cyclists Anne Shenali Perera and KCS Madumadhawa are expected to take part.
Cycling coach Nalin Siriwardena who is the sport officer at the Sports Ministry is also a qualified cycling referee, obtained the highest marks at the coaching course conducted by the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation (SLCF) recently.
“The Cycling Federation has already conducted the same type of development programs to promote this sport and it was highly successful,” said Karunaratne.
During the 2018-2019 period the cycling coaching and development committee headed by Navy Commodore Chandana Ratnayake conducted cycling coaching camps, special coaching courses, courses for the referees and workshop for cyclists which were highly successful.
In addition a mechanical course and road race coaching programs were held in South Korea last year and one technician, two junior girls and a women’s coach had the chance to take part at this Korean tour.
Meanwhile a cycling pool is under training to prepare for the forthcoming South Asian Games and Sri Lanka is expected to win more medals in cycling.
