Masters double international Rajiva Wijetunge won a Gold medal in the Shot Putt event for those over 60 years at the 33rd Sri Lanka Masters Athletic Open Championship meet conducted at the Sugathdasa Stadium recently.
Rajiva hurled the Shot Putt to a distance of 10.34 metres which was his personal best. He also won a silver medal in the Discus Throw. His performances qualified him for the Asian Masters Athletic Championships to be held at Kuching Sarawak Malaysia in December 2019.
Incidentally Rajiva holds the Royal College under-15 and Mercantile over-55 Shot Putt records.
Rajiva was judged the best athlete over 55 category at both the Masters Sri Lanka and Mercantile meets in 2014 for his performance in the Shot Putt event.
