Cabinet approval for non-career diplomats

4 August, 2019

The latest list of non-career diplomats to be posted to Sri Lankan missions overseas, submitted by the Foreign Ministry, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers last Tuesday.

Former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake’s daughter Dulmini Attanayake is among those who have been given the green light by the Cabinet for diplomatic postings. Ms. Attanayake is tipped to be posted as the Third Secretary at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Canberra.

It was earlier reported that the non-career diplomats’ list was deferred by the Cabinet over an issue with the National Salaries and Cadre Commission.

But Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana has confirmed that the list received the green light last week, authoritative sources said.

The high posts committee earlier approved Human Rights activist J.C. Weliamuna, PC as Sri Lanka’s new envoy to Australia along with 13 new heads of missions. They are expected to depart

and take up the new postings shortly. (MF)
