The 12th edition of the Hameed Al Husseinei College’s 80 Group Invitation Schools Soccer Championship for the ‘Oxford President’s Cup’ will come to an end this evening (Sunday) at the Race Course ground on a grand scale.
The match was earlier scheduled to be played on April 4.The final between Azhar Central College Thihariya and Hameed Al Husseinie College is scheduled to kick-off soon after the play-off between Isipathana College and Muslim Central College Kalutara which is expected to start around 2.30 p.m. The Organizers the 80 Group of Hameed Al Husseinie College sent invitations to 22 teams from all all parts of the country for which 21 confirmed their participation and competed in four groups.
The two teams that entered the final maintained an unbeaten record from the beginning of the Championship and is expected to display good soccer in the final. All soccer fans and well wishers who gather on this day will get an opportunity to witness a battle between an outstation school and a Colombo school play in a final expected to be an anticipated show of football by youngsters.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe has been invited to grace the occasion as the chief guest while guests of honor invited are Minister of Sports Harin Fernando, Members of Parliament Mujiber Rahman, Rishard Badoudeen and Imtiaz Farook the Chairman of main Sponsor Oxford Group of Companies.
