Mahinda have it easy over Richmond

Mahinda College won their annual limited overs cricket encounter against Richmond College to take the Woodward-Small Memorial trophy at the Galle International Cricket Stadium yesterday. It was a low scoring affair with the Richmondites who won the toss and elected to bat first managing to get 170 for seven wickets in their 50 overs.

The Mahindians reached their target in 44.2 overs with three wickets in hand to win this game comfortably.

Diluk Sandaruwan was the most successful scorer for Richmond with an unbeaten 45 while Dimuth Ratnayake made 35 not out after their top order collapsed.

Mahinda openers Navod Paranavithana and Kaushitha Kodithuwakku scored 35 runs each to made a good start while last year’s skipper Hansika Walihida also made useful knock of 35 to reach their target.

Dilum Sudeera the Richmond leg spinner who had a match bag of nine wickets in their big match was once again among the wickets with 3 for 19 while Dimuth Sandaruwan finished with 2 for 26.
