The foundation stone laying ceremony for a four-storied building at the Al Iqbal Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Colombo was held recently under the patronage of the School Principal Rihana Marzook.
Marzook said that there are 450 students and 30 teachers in her school. “There are classes from Grade One to Ordinary Level in the Sinhala and Tamil Media. We are unable to enroll new students due to lack of space,” she said.
Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Rauff Hakeem, Western Province Chief Minister Isuru Devapriya, Member of Parliament Mujeebur Rahuman, Western Provincial Councillors Arshad Nizamdeen and A.J.M. Faiz, Deputy Mayor of Colombo M.T.M. Iqbal, Zonal Education Director G.N. Silva, staff, students, parents, members of the School Development Society and past Pupils Association were present.
