The Socio Economic and Planning Centre of the Department of Agriculture has launched a new website for Sri Lankan farmers, providing updated information enabling them to take productive decisions about crops.
It is a very useful information source for farmers, consumers, agricultural producers and food processing institutions as it provides information on the paddy harvest, vegetables and other field crops and will also help provide better understanding of paddy crops in each district.
This early warning system for vegetable growers would encourage the farming community to mitigate wastage and price fluctuations due to excessive production.
According to the website, there would be a glut in pumpkin production during January to March 2019 and a price drop is expected in comparison with the price of late December 2018.
The 2018/19 Maha Paddy crop is expected to be abundant. This information could be accessed through www.croplook.net using ‘public’ as the username and password.
