An unbroken 186 runs partnership for the fourth wicket off 166 deliveries between Ashen Silva and Roscoe Thattil steered John Keells to victory by seven wickets over Kanrich Finance in the final of the MCA B division league tournament played at the MCA ground last Sunday (18).
With that victory John Keells clinched the Unilever Fair and Lovely men’s trophy in the MCA B division tournament. John Keells were 31 for 3 when the pair got together. Ashen Silva scored 86 not out with three sixes and six fours while Thattil pummelled an unbeaten 103 with a six and ten boundaries. They reached the target of 214 runs for victory in the 42nd over.
Sent in to bat first Kanrich Finance scored 213 for 7 in 50 overs as Navindu Nirmal top scored with an unbeaten 79 runs with three sixes and six boundaries. Roscoe Thattil of John Keells was adjudged man of the match. Special awards on performances up to the semi-finals are:
