MUFG Bank donates stationery to schoolchildren

25 November, 2018

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG)’s banking entity MUFG Bank, Colombo Representative Office, presented stationery items including bags and shoes to students from low income families in Dodangoda.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Dodangoda Divisional Secretariat, Dodangoda, in Kalutara, where 50 children were each given a set of the stationery items.

Chief Representative for MUFG Colombo Representative Office, Tatsuo Matsushita said, “It is a privileged to donate school stationery items for these children and we are rewarded with their smiling faces. Through our annual ‘MUFG Gives Back’ global community outreach program, we hope we can motivate young learners to continue their quest for knowledge, while overcoming difficulties along the way.”

MUFG staff also conducted a fun quiz on finance and economics to encourage the students to learn more about the basics of money.

MUFG also invited members of the Alliance for Disaster Management, Sri Lanka (also affiliated to A-Pad Japan) to conduct a short yet educational segment on disaster management to teach the children and their parents about coping with disasters that may affect them.

“We will continue to give back to the community and play an active role in nurturing the next generation here in Sri Lanka,” Matsushita added.

Since 2013, MUFG has been actively involved in community work in appreciation of the outpouring global support for its home country during the Great East Japan earthquake disaster.

The annual MUFG Gives Back global volunteer month encourages its teams across the globe to be agents of positive change and work with their communities to build an inclusive and supportive environment for a better future. MUFG’s Colombo Representative Office was set up in January, 2016. It is the first representative office of any Japanese bank in Sri Lanka.
