Former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has returned to the country and has taken over the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) election campaign to steer the party to victory at whatever election forthcoming, an authoritative sources told the Sunday Observer.
It was said that he is planning a strategic move to make the party emerge the strongest be it the Provincial council election or the Presidential election that will be held next, the sources said, adding that they will start by appointing committees at village level. The SLPP is currently in the process of forming unions with different groups of interest, teachers, students and business community - to prepare the ground before the party faces the next election. The party is expected to hold its first National Convention at the end of this year.
