Good swimming by Gateway
Gateway College Kandy swimmers did extremely well to win seven Gold, six Silver and four Bronze medals to make it 16 medals at the 2018 Provincial Swimming Meet which was organized at the Digana Sports Complex by the Department of Education Central Province.
In the Under -20 boys segment Janith de Alwis won the 200M Breaststroke, 100M Breaststroke and 50M Breaststroke.
In the Under- 16 girls segment Osandi Ariyasena was placed second in the 100M Backstroke, 50M Backstroke and 50M Butterfly while Panchalee Mahawithana was placed first in the 50M Freestyle and second in the 50M Butterfly and 100M Freestyle. Ayodya Weerakoon was second in the 50M freestyle.
In Under -14 girls category, Krethikeshni Kirubakaran was first in the 100M Breaststroke, 50M Breaststroke and third in 4X50M Medleys Relay. Sanjana Kathirvel was third in the 4x50M Medley Relay, Sandanaki Weerasekara third in the 4X50M Medley Relay and Sachani Salapadoruge third in the 4X5M Medley Relay.
Breaks for Ibrahim, Marija
Kandy’s Nilfer Ibrahim and Fazil Marija have been invited as head and assistant coach of the Sri Lanka U-20 Sevens side.
Both learnt their rugby at Kingswood College and polished it at Kandy SC and from there they played for the country. Nilfer later played for Navy SC and he first coached the Kandy SC Sevens team and later Navy, Army, Kingswood, Trinity, Dharmaraja, Isiptahana, and presently St. Joseph’s College.
Fazil Marija one of the best fly halves the country has seen in the last ten years, is also picking up as a good talented coach. He coached Kandy SC to win the inter club first leg Sevens.
Old Trinitians Tag rugby
A tag rugby tournament organized by the OTSC in collaboration with the TCK OBA exclusively for Trinitians will be held on July 28 at the Asgiriya Stadium.
Age category is below and over 40 years contested by six players in a team and two reserves.

Ekanayake to quit
Priyana Ekanayake the CEO of Sri Lanka Rugby is stepping down from his post and his exit will be felt according to analysts. Sri Lanka Rugby is in the process of selecting a replacement which will be done at their AGM this week.
Ekanayake was one of the finest forwards Sri Lanka produced who successfully turned out for CH and FC and Kandy SC.
PGS Bandara lends a big hand
Thanks to the efforts of the present principal PGS Bandara boxing is back in the ring at St Sylvester’s College.
They regained Stubbs Shield after 10 years this year. The principal said he was grateful to the team led by Chamath Kapukotuwa and coached by one of the school’s products Bandula Gamage. The rest of the boxers were D. Thenabadu, R. Kularatne, B. Kapukotuwa, M. Manatunge, R.Ratnayake, R.Wickremasinghe, A. Jayasinghe, C. Sanjeewa and W.Wimalaweera.
