The Office of Missing Persons held public meetings with families of the disappeared in Jaffna yesterday, as part of its ongoing outreach with victims who will be the central focus of its work in districts around the island.
The meeting held at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna town was well attended, despite protests against the OMP outside the meeting room. OMP Chairman Saliya Peiris PC, shared their plans with the public and listened to suggestions and doubts expressed by the families of the disappeared.
Protestors outside the Veerasingham Hall urged families of the missing in the area to boycott the meeting with the OMP and said they had appeared before countless similar commissions in their search for answers about their missing loved ones, but were unsuccessful.
