Fast bowler Suranga Lakmal will captain Sri Lanka for the third and final cricket Test against the West Indies which is a day/night Test starting Saturday afternoon in the Caribbean.
Lakmal was given the task after Dinesh Chandimal was banned for using an illegal substance (sugary saliva) from his mouth to alter the condition of the ball in the second Test which ended in a draw. West Indies lead the three-match series 1-0. Sri Lanka is also handicapped with the absence of batsman Angelo Mathews who left the team and returned to the island after the first Test along with veteran spin bowler Rangana Herath who is sidelined with an injury.
