Kandy SC withdraws
Winners of the 2018 first leg inter club rugby Sevens Kandy SC have withdrawn from the second leg which is to be played next Saturday and Sunday.
The reason given by the club for their withdrawal is that several players on the injured list are unable to be fit in time for the second leg.
Central Province excel
At the 44th National Sports Festival 2018, Central Province excelled in chess for men and women. It was nice to see that the well-organized chess tournament by the Department of Sports Development was well contested.
Lote out Inthi in
Can Inthi Marikar do a better job than Lote Raikabula as the new coach of Trinity College rugby. Their supporters in Kandy are presently on suspense waiting to see how the team plays under their new coach who is also an ex-Trinity College player.
He will be responsible for structured and planned training sessions, preparation of the players, structure of the team game plan, communicating this game plan to the players, developing each player’s potential, encouraging excellence in execution, providing a positive feedback and post-game analysis, recruitment and retention, contributing to and being aware of the importance of team morale.
The new acting Scrummage head D. Siva Subramanium with the rest Ajith Abeyratne, Ravi Balasuriya, Dinesh Nugegoda, Amil Ramanathan and Murad Ramzeen are going all-out to do their best.
Kandy CC officials
The newly elected office bearers of Kandy Cricket Club have decided to start off with a six-a-side tournament for the J. Block Memorial Shield.
They are also likely to review the limited over tournament for the George Hemachandra Trophy, double wicket tournament for the Dr. CDL Fernando trophy and the TB Tennakoon trophy inter club tournament. All three tournaments were in the dark in the last few years. They have also started the Kandy District Division III cricket tournament. Now it is up to the tournament committee chairman to do the needful, without saying no ground.
Kandy Youth are back
Kandy Youth SC are back in action. This club was formed by Malcolm Perera with the objective of giving school leaving cricketers in the Kandy area an opportunity of playing top grade cricket. The people who gave a big hand for him were H. Marikar, J.A. Shaw Wilson and a few others.
Kandy Gateway swim
Kandy’s Gateway College swimmers gave their best at the National Sports Festival 2018 conducted by the Sports Ministry of Central Province at the Digana Sports Complex.
Their achievements came from Osandi Ariyasena (100m Backstroke –2nd place, 50m Backstroke – 3rd place, 200m Backstroke – 3rd place and 4.50m Freestyle Relay – 3rd place), Panchalee Mahavithane (50m Free – 2nd place and 4.50m Free Relay – 3rd place) and Krethikeshini Kirubakaran (200m Breastroke 2nd place and 4.50m Freestyle Relay – 3rd place).
