27 May, 2018

Sri Lanka will contest a netball Invitational tournament with Singapore and a club team from England today at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo in preparation for the Asian Netball Championships scheduled to be held in Singapore in September.

The tournament, organized by the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka (NFSL), will feature two teams from Singapore, the Sri Lanka Development team and the PStar Netball Club from England.

The tournament will be played on a round-robin basis, with each team playing three games at the end of which the top two teams will battle it out for the championship while the other two teams clash in a third place play-off.

According to Trixie Nanayakkara, president of the NFSL, this tournament has been organized with the objective of providing the national team to gain some practice ahead of the Asian Netball Championships to be held from September 1 to 10 in Singapore.

Singapore has climbed to 20th in the World Netball Rankings while Sri Lanka trails in the 25th place behind Malaysia (24).
