The Level 1 Pentathlon coaching course for 2018 was conducted at the Ministry of Sports in Colombo from April 20 to 24 with 21 coaches being trained.
The certificates were awarded on the final day at a ceremony held with Director General Sports, Buwaneka Herath in attendance as the chief guest. The course was conducted by Modern Pentathlon Federation of Sri Lanika (MPFSL) with the support of the Ministry of Sports.
The international body of Modern Pentathlon facilitated the course by providing a resource person, Dmytro Kirpulianskyi, who is an UIPM coaching consultant, qualified medical doctor, an Olympian representing Ukraine in Modern Pentathlon and a member of the UIPM Athletes Committee.
Twelve coaches were certified as Level 1 coaches until the year 2021 and seven coaches were certified pending another examination in six months.
The attendees for the course were national coaches, elite athletes, ministry of sports officials and university students studying sports science. They also represented the Army, Navy and Air Force and different regions of the country from Galle in the south to Jaffna in the north.
