Ayesha Madhuwanthi performed her personal best with a throw of 48.62 metres to win the women’s hammer throw event at the Senior Athletic trials concluded at the newly laid Sugathadasa Sports Complex yesterday.
Meanwhile Kalinga Kumarage also produced his personal best of 46.08, the fourth fastest time ever by a Sri Lankan in the 400m beating the favourite Dilip Ruwan who also clocked his personal best of 46.39 seconds. A Premakumara was third with 47.16. The trio represented Army.
Upamalika Ratnakumari who reached the qualification standard for the Asian Games 2018 clocked her personal best of 53.31 seconds to win the 400m while Nadeesha Ramanayake too clocked her personal best of 54.18 to finish second and DGKS Jayasinghe from the Army with 55.99 was placed third. Para athlete Amara Indumathi also took part and clocked 1:02.92 to be placed seventh.
In the women’s 200m top female sprinter Rumeshika Ratnayake finished first with an unimpressive timing of 23.98 to win the final while MAS Jayathilake came second clocking 25.16. SL Viduranga was placed third with a time of 25.38 secs.
In the 100m women’s final WVL Sugandi registered a time of 11.98 and won the first place while SL Vidanaduruge (12.25) and MAS Jayathilaka (12.32) finished in second and third places respectively.
