Traffic on several roads will be restricted from today onwards due to Vesak celebrations, Police said.
According to a communique released by the Police Media Unit traffic will be restricted at times on Slave Island, Sir James Peiris Mawatha, Sri Uttarananda Mawatha, Braybrooke Place, Dawson Street and Wijerama Mawatha from today up to May 2 after 7 pm.
“Officers on duty will direct motorists to alternate routes during those times,” Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said, adding that at times the roads may be completely closed off for traffic as well.
According to the spokesperson, it will be necessary to restrict road use during the time due to the excessive traffic expected during the holiday. Meanwhile, the Police also said several areas in Colombo have been designated for parking vehicles during the said dates.
The public will be able to park on several roads in the areas of Slave Island, Cinnamon Gardens, Marine Drive, Colombo Fort, Pettah, Maradana, Borella and Grandpass.
