My father’s life curtain finally came down on March 8, 1987 at the age of 87, when he stepped off from the stage of life.
He was content with himself just the way he was. He was an exceptionally calm person, taking everything with a smile, be it hard times or jubilant times and was never tremulous or ruffled. His great sense of humour gave a sparkle to his lively conversation.
It is no secret that my father endeared himself to anyone who met him for the first time, within a few minutes.
He had an inseparable connection with his family that was deep and symbiotic. His family mattered to him the most, as evidenced by the abundance of love and care giving that surrounded his happy home of his spouse, five children and 9 grandchildren, 3 daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. He gave each of his five children his undivided attention. His life was full of selfless care for others with kindness, compassion and generosity.
He was a devoted Buddhist and was the Treasurer of the ‘Dayaka Sabha’ at the Sri Lankaramaya temple, in Wadduwa. His advice to us was to be always genuine, curious about others, be humble, punctual, help others, smile, think positively and have an open heart.
He showed that happiness is found when you stop comparing yourself with others. He asked us not to refuse any kind offer, and not be selfish.
His well lived and fulfilled life is our legacy and our fond memories of him is the comfort in our hearts that will linger always.
May he attain the supreme bliss of Nibbana.
