Soft Skills 2018 - Skills to improve team work

Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) for the sixth consecutive year organized Soft skills+ 2018. The main purpose of Soft Skills is improving team work, leadership skills, problem solving, and creative thinking.

Soft Skills+ 2018 had preliminary rounds held from 14th May – 18th May 2018 in 7 different centers. on 14th May it was held at SLIIT Malabe premises, 15th May YMBA Hall in Kurunegala and SLIIT Kandy center, 16th May it was held at Rathnapura Ferguson Girls College, 17th May at SLIIT Matara centre, 18th May at Vishakamaha Vidyalaya Bandarawela and Jaffna Hindu College Auditorium. This was organised by 3rd year Business school students. It was an amazing and successful event.

The chief guests were Pushpamala Perera (Librarian at SLIIT), Thilak Ekanayake, A.S.K. Jayalath (Provincial Director – Provincial Education Office of the Kurunegala), Prof. Collin. N. Peries, Prof. Chandana Perera (former Bean of Business School), R.M Ariyadasa (Zonal Director of Education Bandarawela) and Subramaniam Muhundhan. (Director College of Technology Jaffna).

There were around 150 teams; about 50-75 schools participated. A workshop was conducted in all centers to teach the students the importance of Mind Maps. Students from various teams chose various topics for their Mind Map. They were approximately provided with 10-15 minutes to draw the Mind Maps. The students displayed their talents using various colors and making the topics’ scope larger as possible. We observed great team work, which made the students finish the work on time. A Quiz Competition was also conducted. Through this they improved their general knowledge and visualized their ideas and concepts in a graphical way.

The winning teams of the preliminary rounds had the grand finale on 22nd May 2018 at SLIIT Malabe premises.

All the students were awarded with a token of appreciation and certificate of participation. They were also provided with lunch. We also took the feedback of some students and teachers, in which they said, they were highly satisfied with the event and it was a great experience. Students got a great platform to express their self and improve their team spirit.
