HelpAge greeting cards, boon to senior citizens

HelpAge Sri Lanka will release 200,000 New Year and Vesak greeting cards, to collect funds to perform free cataract surgeries for senior citizens over the age of 55.

The Vesak cards depict the Birth, Enlightenment and the Passing-away of Lord Buddha, and are adorned with 10 colourful graphic designs, printed on high quality ivory boards. The New Year greeting cards highlight traditional events conducted during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period. HelpAge, Executive Director, Samantha Liyanawaduge said, several underprivileged senior citizens are in need of cataract surgeries, but cannot afford the cost.

The “HelpAge Eye Hospital at Sinsapa Road, Wellawatte (opposite the Savoy Cinema) is open on all five working days and conduct 20 cataract surgeries a day, free of charge, and issue latest eye lenses.”

HASL, Manager Fund-raising, Ruchilalani Batuwantudawa said, pocket Vesak cards have also been released for schoolchildren at very affordable prices.
