Mercantile ‘C’ Division cricket : Standard Chartered Bank halts Kanrich’s winning streak

Riding on a sparkling unbeaten century by Aruna Henrison, Standard Chartered Bank, ended the unbeaten run of Kanrich Finance ‘B’ with a convincing five wicket win in the ongoing seventh Prestige Automobile (Pvt.) Ltd*., *sponsored – ‘BMW Hyundai’ Trophy – MCA ‘C’ division 50 Over League Tournament 2018 continued last week.

Kanrich Finance ‘B’, thus completed their league quota of 06 matches with 04 wins, one No decision and a loss; Std. Chartered has so far played 05 matches, won 02 & lost 03. After Hasitha Rajapaksa (4 for 23) and Ravin Perumal (2 for 26) restricted Kanrich ‘B’ to a moderate 213 in 48.3 overs, Henrison almost single handedly put the Bankers on the right side of the ledger, with a masterly 126 not out in 123 balls inclusive of 06 sixes and 13 fours, thus upsetting the Kanrich party, Std. Chartered finished with 215 for 5 in only 42.5 overs.

New comer to this division, Pyramid Wilmer notched up their fourth win with a handsome 46 run win over Morisons. Pyramid Wilmer went over the 300 runs bar (304 for 7 in 50), with brilliant batting of Lasith Fernando’s 100 not out in 108 balls with 14 hits to the ropes, this was Fernando’s second ton in this tournament. Morisons gave a spirited chase via S. Dewage (77) and G. Kahawita (81), but fell short by 46 runs (258 in 50)

Softlogic Holdings recovered from 25 for 5 to 217 for 9 in 44 overs and ran away with a heart stopping one wicket win over Commercial Bank, the batsman who took the flight of the Phoenix were Rizwan Gulam (45) and Vinod Kumara (77 in 71 balls with 08 sixes and 4 fours.) & Buddhika Kumara (37 not out), Vinod Kumara & Buddhika Sampath were engaged in a 65 run partnership for the ninth wicket.

PABC Bank went home early, beating NTB ‘A’ by 09 wickets, NTB was shot out for 115 runs in 32.3 overs. PABC via Thusitha Silva’s 81 not out in 112 balls with a six and 12 fours reached the target under 31 overs (118 for 1 in 30.2 overs)

A 106 run opening stand in 115 balls between K. Kanchana (54) and M. Sanjaya (49) paved the way for Commercial Leasing & Finance to post a fine four wicket win with 10 overs to spare over Colombo Dockyard.
