Today (28) is the last day to indulge in a dish from the Taste of Britain Curry Festival at Hilton Colombo, prepared by a group of British chefs including Michelin Starred Chef, Rupert Rowley. Chef Rowley, who appeared in the BBC series Yes Chef, has been demonstrating his culinary skills at the British food promotion, aimed at showcasing British Curry, since January 24.
“We are bringing British curries to Sri Lanka and we will be cooking some classic British dishes over the week. These will be available in different restaurants of the hotel.
This includes afternoon tea, with sandwiches and cakes. Then, there is a curry menu available at Graze, and il Ponte has another British menu that is cooked by us,” said Rowley.
The team of chefs promises a range of new dishes with a spicy twist to the traditional British meals. Chicken tikka Masala, Balti and Sri Lankan dishes are also in the menu.
The festival team will also be experiencing local food, to find inspiration from local dishes for their menu back home in Britain.
“This is our first British curry promotion in Sri Lanka. Hopefully, this would create the opportunity to showcase the best of British cuisine, as well as help our chefs bring fresh ideas to their menus by working side by side with the culinary masters of Sri Lanka,” said Festival Organizer and Editor of Curry Life, Syed Belal Ahmed.
In a message to support the festival, UK Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Office Responsible for Asia and the Pacific, Rt Hon Mark Field said that he sends his best wishes to everyone participating at the festival.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to Hilton Colombo for hosting the Festival,” he said.
