The Mahaweli Development project celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. A part of its celebrations Mahaweli Authority in association with the Ministry of Sports and Department of Sports Development has made arrangements to conduct Standard/Racing Open Cycle Tour for Elite men riders.
This race is to take place tomorrow from Moragahakanda at 11.00 a.m. and will proceed to Polgolla via Kongahawila, Naula, Dambulla, Madawala Ulpotha, Matale, Balakaduwa, Akurana, Katugastota and will take the flag at the close to Polgolla Dam. Riders will cover a distance of 108 kilo meters.
All participants should be above 18 years and forward their medical Certificate before the commencement of the race. Clubs are eligible to nominate any amount of riders for the event. The winners of both categories Standard and Racing cycles are to receive Trophies and cash Awards as follows: Winner Rs. 150,000, first runner up Rs.100,000, Second runner up Rs.75,000, third runner up Rs. 50,000 and fourth runner up 25,000, while the r riders placed from sixth to tenth position are to get cash prizes of 10,000 and 11th to 15th placed cyclists will receive Rs. 5,000 each.
