The Sri Lanka Railways has increased its fine for a ticketless train traveller from Rs. 2,500 to 3,000, Deputy General Manager of Railways (operations) Wijaya Samarasinghe told the Sunday Observer. Mobile operations, sudden ticket inspections and raids too have been enhanced concurrently to nab individuals travelling in trains without valid tickets. With the intensification of these operations, inspections and raids in trains by mobile ticket inspectors and inquirers of the Department of Railways over Rs. 16,882,922 have been collect as income from fines.
