
Two abductors nabbed
Kurunegala Police nabbed two men suspected of kidnapping a man from the Kurunegala junction. According to the Police, the suspects had kidnapped the man around 8 am on Friday. Acting on a complaint received by the abducted man’s sister a Police team arrested the two suspects from the Polpithigama area on the same day. The two individuals had demanded a ransom of Rupees 380, 000 from the abducted man’s family which they had asked them to deposit to a bank account by 3 pm the Police said. The arrested suspects aged 27 and 28 are said to be residents of Polpithigama
Motorcyclist killed in Gokarella
A motorcyclist and the pillion rider was killed when they crashed head-on with a lorry along the Dambulla - Kurunegala road in the Gokarella area. The accident had occurred near the Panliyadda Temple in Gokarella on Friday. The motorcycle had been plying towards Dambulla at the time the Police said. The victims, a husband and wife aged 34 and 30 were declared dead on arrival at the Gokarella Hospital. Gokarella Police are investigating.
Four Heroin peddlers arrested
In two separate raids, the Keselwatta Police and the Egoda Uyana Police arrested two individuals each under the suspicion of having heroin in their possession on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off received the Keselwatta Police arrested two individuals who each had 2.14 grams and 3.3 grams of heroin in their possession. Both suspects are said to be residents of the Colombo 12 area. Meanwhile, the Egoda Uyana Police nabbed two more suspects. According to the Police, the duo had 5.7 grams of Heroin in their possession collectively. The arrested suspects aged 51 and 54 are residents of Moratuwa the Police said.
