President Maithripala Sirisena has directed responsible departments to implement a special program to preserve Tampita Viharas a special variation of Buddhist temples that are built on pillars and further advised them to deploy needed manpower and other resources for the cause, the President’s media unit said in a statement.
Accordingly, the directions by the president were given at a meeting held on Friday at the Presidential Secretariat where the president also advised to commence a program to train laic and clergy guardians to preserve and maintain tampita viharas.
The government’s program to protect and preserve the places of archaeological values were reviewed at this meeting.
