A range of baskets as substitutes for shopping bags was displayed at a Palmyra product exhibition at the Galle Face Green last week. The products targeted the environmental-friendly consumer, at a time when the government announced a ban on the manufacture, sale, offer for sale, offer free of charge, exhibition or use of the polythene or any polythene product below 20 microns, through a gazette notification issued by the Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry on Friday.
