The 66th SLFP Convention will be held today, at Campbell Park, Borella, under the auspices of Party leader President Maithripala Sirisena and SLFP stalwarts.
This year’s convention themed Janabalaya hari athata will be an unprecedented one as it would announce the party’s future program to the country. A series of important resolutions will also be moved at the convention, SLFP General Secretary and Agriculture Minister Duminda Dissanayake told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
The Minister said they will outline party ideology and the way forward to party supporters.
He said the party convention would give a strong message to the people about the laudable history of the SLFP and its future programs. “We are ready to rectify our shortcomings and move forward as a successful political entity.
Therefore, this year’s party convention would focus on these key aspects.” The Minister said they have invited all top office-bearers of the SLFP including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. We have also invited all those who contested from the SLFP at the Parliamentary, Provincial Council and Pradeshiya Sabha elections. Minister Dissanayake said if some SLFP MPs in the Joint Opposition (JO) continue to blatantly violate the party constitution, the SLFP will take stern action against them.
