 Treasure hunters nabbed

The Ridigama Police has nabbed four men who are suspected to have been engaging in excavation activities while hunting for historical artefacts. Acting on a tip off received the Police nabbed the individuals from the premises of the Galpaya Historical Temple, in Ridigama on Friday. Police were able to recover several artefacts and equipment used in the excavations. The suspects are said to be residents of Matale and Kegalle.

Lightning strike kills farmers

A 77-year-old man died in Jayanthipura, Polonnaruwa while working in a paddy field when he was struck by lightning. The incident had occurred on Friday around 10.30 am. Police have identified the victim as Satharasinghe Arachchige Sirisena.

Tractor driver killed in accident

The driver of a tractor was killed when he lost control of the vehicle in Girandurukotte which toppled as a result of the accident. The tractor had been plying towards Viranagama at the time of the incident.

According to the Police, the victim had succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Mahiyangana Hospital. The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Gayan Buddhika Dileepa Ruwan Rodrigo, a resident of Aluththarama, Viranagama. Girandurukotte Police are investigating. ​
