Fuel station blaze: Two arrested

27 August, 2017

Police have arrested two suspects they believe are responsible for the inferno that engulfed a fuel station in Kalagedihena on Friday.

According to the Police, the driver and the assistant of a fuel bowser were arrested for not taking safety precautions when unloading fuel to the storage units at the station, which had resulted in the fire.

Police say the negligence of the duo had caused the ensuing blaze.

The two suspects were produced before the Gampaha Courts yesterday and later remanded.

The fire had erupted at around 2 pm on Friday and was eventually doused around 4 p.m. by fire fighting units which had responded to the incident.

The fire caused severe traffic congestion on the Kandy road. While no injuries were reported, the fuel station was completely gutted.
