Two drown
Two youths were drowned when they jumped into an abandoned well in Uppuveli. They are, Lohanathan Kemalathan, 16, of Puliyankulam and Kodiswaram Praviraj, 15, of Trincomalee. Their bodies have been handed over to their parents after postmortem examinations. Police is conducting further investigations.
Two mine workers die
Two men who were working in a mine in Hatharabage, Balangoda were seriously injured when a mound of earth fell on them. They succumbed to their injuries on admission to hospital.
Pedestrian killed
A woman pedestrian was knocked down by a motorcyclist at the pedestrian crossing in front of the Lunuwila Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries while being treated at the Marawila Hospital. The victim has been identified as E. A. Chandrawathi (66) of St. Anne’s Town, Lunuwila. Wennapuuwa police is conducting investigations.
Over-stayers arrested
Samanthurai Police arrested three Indian nationals while they were working as paddy harvesting machine operators. They had come to Sri Lanka on tourist visas and overstayed, violating immigration and emigration laws. The suspects aged 21 and 27 believed to be residents of Tamil Nadu were to be produced before the Samanthurai Magistrate.
Motorcyclist in fatal crash
A motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries when his motorcycle veered away from the road and knocked against a telephone post between the 34 and 35 mileposts along the Trincomalee-Pulmudai main road.
The victim died on admission to the Kuchchaweli hospital. He has been identified as Mohomad Fause of Sendur, Podawakattuwa.
Kuchchiweli police is conducting further investigations.
