Power and Renewable Energy Ministry Secretary Dr. Suren Batagoda will recommend to the Cabinet tomorrow to open all eight tenders of international bidders who have shown interest to construct the 300MW Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya at a cost of USD 250 million.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) in June decided to call for an open tender for international competitors to construct this power plant costing USD 250 million. Power planners say, the selection of a bidder is long overdue, and should not be delayed any further as the construction of the power plant is a crucial decision. “We need to start working on this project; otherwise we will have to face a severe energy issue,” a well known power planner said.
