Special life saving boats

6 August, 2017

Kurunegala District parliamentarian and Minister of Disaster Management, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa told the Sunday Observer that his Ministry has planned to manufacture about 100 life-saving boats with special facilities to be used to save lives, when natural disasters such as floods occur suddenly and unexpectedly, in the country. These boats are to be manufactured by the Sri Lanka Navy.

In this regard, 2,000 education programs would be held countrywide with the help of his Ministry officials, the Disaster Management Centre, Divisional Secretaries and school heads to educate the school community on the protective measures that can be applied during such natural disasters, the Minister said. Since the people have not been properly enlightened on the modes to be applied when natural disasters occur, provincial level journalists too would be educated to convey the facts to the people at grassroots level, Minister Yapa added.
