The government is in talks with two international airlines, including a top Japanese airline backed by Aitken Spence to finalize a deal for SriLankan Airlines, a highly placed source told the Sunday Observer.
The SriLankan Airlines’ management handed over an in-house restructuring plan, last month to a government committee, in case there were no foreign takers for the airline.
Since there were no takers for the airline at the time under the proposed public-private partnership, the government was to review the in-house restructuring plan and decide on the future of the airline by around end of July.
However, the official sources said the time for the decision has now been extended until August 30, as the government has resumed fresh talks with two foreign airlines. (CJ)
