
The SLFP Executive Committee which met President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday, July 28, laid key emphasis on important areas such as future elections, party reorganisation and future programs.
Facing future elections, reorganisation work and future party activities are indispensable for the survival of the party as a major force in the political arena. Attention was also focused on the 66th SLFP convention to be held at Campbell Park, Colombo on September 2, SLFP General Secretary and Agriculture Minister Duminda Dissanayake told the Sunday Observer yesterday.
Meanwhile, UPFA General Secretary and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister, Mahinda Amaraweera told the Sunday Observer that high priority was given during the discussions for the party’s 66th convention and the holding of Local Government elections.
Minister Amaraweera said, at present, all arrangements have been finalised to hold the Local Government (LG) elections. The Elections Commissioner only has to announce a date to conduct the elections. The SLFP party hierarchy also emphasised on the need to conduct the LG elections as early as possible, he said.
