Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States, Prasad Kariyawasam has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a release from the President’s Media Division said yesterday.
He was also the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka to Trinidad and Tobago and Ambassador (designate) to Mexico.
A senior career diplomat, Kariyawasam, joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1981 and served in many postings including Geneva, New York and Riyadh, and served as the High Commissioner to India before being posted to Washington.
His predecessor Esala Weerakoon has been appointed as Secretary to the Tourism Promotion and Christian Affairs Ministry.
